Books

Sorin loves his books.  I've read books to him since he was born so I think that has ensured a positive response to them.  We read, mostly, before he goes to bed or down for a nap.  We also read when he is getting whiney or antsy, or when we are at the doctor's office and he won't sit still, or...  you get the picture.  His love for books really began when he discovered that the cardboard books are chewy and when you chew at them enough you can even get a little piece in your mouth.  But I think that it goes beyond that.  I have other books, my favorites, Beatrix Potter, and he does not tolerate even the first page.  Or Winnie the Pooh, Dr. Suess, or Lauren Child with her Charlie and Lola (and Lola's imaginary friend Soren Lorenson) books.  No, No, and No.  It is only brightly colored cardboard books for this boy...  Hans and I literally get Goodnight Moon stuck in our head as we find ourselves reading it over and over and... over. Here are his top three right now:

Goodnight Moon
Farm Animals
And Little Duck
Little Duck isn't looking so good...

He is losing interest now with chewing the books as looking at the pictures and turning the pages are much more interesting.  But I do catch him, from time to time, taking a little nibble:

fast forward 2 WEEKS (from the last post)

So here is Sorin now that he has refined his new-found crawling skills and can use them to chase poor little lily around the living room. (I think she liked him better when he was smaller and more stationary).

Crawling

It's taken a couple weeks to get this video onto the blog, but we're proud to report that Sorin is crawling. We were at Grant and Jess' place when Sorin took all-fours forward and into the world of crawling. Honestly, this is why it took so long to get the video - we've been chasing him around the house all week.

You have to watch closely, but there's certainly movement forward. Later in the evening Katie told me, "He'll take a day or two, then you won't be able to stop him - he'll be everywhere!"

The many faces of Sorin

Sorin has become very expressive.  If we thought he was expressive before, he is so much more so now...  both in his face as well as making noises.  His babysitter, Kate, and I always laugh about how every week (not a joke) he has a new 'noise' that he makes...  constantly.  I can not even begin to describe the different noises, but I watch him and he experiments with his voice and you can tell when he just 'discovered' a new sound that he can make with his mouth and then he does it over and over and over again, day after day after day until he finds a new one, which seems to happen...  about a week later.  Unfortunately I have not documented this...  that truly would have been a lot of video.  What I have documented, though, are some of the facial expressions that he has been experimenting with.  He mostly, I have noticed, finds different ways to smile and they get funnier the more teeth he gets:
