A Week In Florida

Sorin has had an interesting adjustment to Florida. He hasn't slept well at all. He wakes up in the middle of the night and it takes awhile for him to calm down and get back to sleep. We've tried everything, and he just doesn't respond to being in my (Hans') arms - he needs mom. So sleep has been tough.

As I noted in the last post, he didn't like the pool at first - it scared him. And at his first day at the beach I think the wind scared him, too. There's just been a lot of new stuff going on here but Sorin's just taking it all in. And he really does take it in. It's so fun to see him analyze and process things - he stares a lot.

One thing we thought would happen on this trip was him getting more familiar with the Roberston family. He sees my mom every Friday, and you can tell. But to have Steve and Sue, Grant, Tori and Jes here every day all day has been good for Sorin.

Here's some of the memories we've captured:

More pool time - he really likes the water now.

Grandpa had him in the mirror at Dan and Kathy's for dinner one night.

Tori seems to always get great pictures with Sorin.

How cute are those sunglasses?

Katie's still reading Good Night Moon - it's even better on the patio in the fresh Florida air overlooking the ocean.

It's blurry, but here's our darkest guest with our lightest guest - smiles all around.

Sorin's First Pool Experience

Sorin didn't waste any time getting in the water - Katie was sure to get him poolside on day 1. He woke up from a nap at 11am while I (Hans) was in the living room. The whole family was down by the pool and my job was to get him dressed for the water and bring him down. As usual, he was so relaxed after waking up. Then as he starts coming around, he's just as happy as can be after a good nap.

You should see his water attire. Bear with me as a first time parent: he's got the water diaper that's pretty cute. But we got him a surfer shirt (SPF 50) and a hat for full sun protection. And he's got the cutest sun glasses - tomorrow I'll get a pic.

So I brought him down to the pool and Katie put some sunscreen on. In the pool he liked it at first. I think he was familiar with the water from his baths. But after awhile he started getting scared. We're not sure why - but he'd be ok, then his lip would start to quiver in fear. It sounds sad but in some weird way it was kind of cute.

Sorin Travels to Destin, FL

Katie and I have been looking forward to our vacation for quite a few months now. Of course the trip is a little different this year with traveling with us. Admittedly I was very nervous about a crying baby on the plane, but the trip went very well. Sorin's first flight went perfectly. The second flight was a little rougher. It's hard to watch your kid crying on the plane and not knowing exactly what's wrong. I'm sure the pressure was getting to him, and he just wanted to be moving around more than he was able.

During the layover, Sorin had a boy crawl over and want to play. They boy got very close, almost in Sorin's face, but you can see the smile on Sorin's face. It was very cute to see him with another boy his size.

But we landed in Destin, Florida at 4:15pm. Steve picked us up and we were off to the condo. Everyone was pretty tired from the travels, so it's been a relaxing evening.

Stay tuned to see SORIN IN THE FLORIDA SUN!!

What do you see?

I had some thoughts as I was lying next to Sorin this afternoon. What do you see in this video?

I see my son and the future before him. I see the way he stares and analyzes things. I see thoughts going in his head. Then I see him moving around - learning to crawl and walk and talk and run. But with that comes mistakes. I see his first big cry when he falls and hurts himself. I see him growing up and experiencing so much of life for the first time. It's exciting as a dad. My words are not matching my emotions and thoughts from when I took this video. But when I lay next to Sorin I think of the immediate and the distant future.

Happy Easter

Katie has been waiting for months to dress Sorin in his Easter outfit...
He certainly looks handsome.

And his Grandma Margit got him an easter basket with a cute little lamb in it...

We also got him his an Easter basket - and for all you regulars here at Sorin's blog, you know right where that basket went...
