Sorin's New Toy

Sorin has been begging me for a jumper - and much to his delight (and mine) his grandpa Dave and grandma Margit showed up to our house with one. Hurray! Now he has been able to jump all he wants!!! He loves to play in it and to touch and look at all of the fun things it has attached to it. What a great gift!
Thank you thank you thank you grandma and grandpa!

surprise!

it's a bird, it's a plane it's a.....

This is what it looks like when first time parents find out that their baby has his first tooth - mom yells for dad, dad grabs the camera and films mom and baby, dad does not pay attention to how mom's hair looks due to the fact that she just woke up, even though the video is going to be posted on a blog.  Mom does think about it but only fleetingly and then doesn't really care herself cause their baby's tooth is infinitely more important.

5 MONTHS!

Our little guy is 5 months old today.

Sorin is changing and growing and developing into a wonderful little boy.  He is a smiley happy little baby.  He is almost sitting up on his own, his problem is that he looses concentration once he starts playing with a toy and then falls over, we found that it is best to practice this on the bed.  He LOVES his toys, I find them all over the house now cause wherever we bring him we need to make sure to bring a toy. He has a tooth!, (more on that later) his hair is growing in, and he weighs 17 pounds.  He is very active and full of life.  He loves books, and being read to, and he likes TV too, good thing for Baby Einstein : ) - no cartoons yet.  And he is eating rice cereal like a champ!  What a good baby... we love you little Sorin Steven Schiefelbein!

solids

Well we took Sorin to the Dr. for his 4 month check up (a couple of weeks ago - I'm VERY sorry to our readers that I have been so lazy with my blog posts) and he got the green light to go ahead and start eating solids!!! I could tell that he was ready because he was starting to look longingly at this banana I was eating a couple of days before that and I gave him a little lick and boy was he happy. So we started him on rice cereal, probably not as good as banana, but still something new and interesting. It was a little rough at first but he worked and work and now he's a pro - as you can see from this video....

... here is another one... you never really know what you're going to get when you sit him down in his high chair... sorry for the unsteady cinematography, I have not yet mastered the art of feeding Sorin with one hand and filming him with the other : )

Daddy!

We were just talking to some friends the other day about how Sorin doesn't really take 'naps' with us anymore and how we missed that.  We LOVED that about having a newborn, it was so relaxing to watch him sleep in our arms.
So much love...
Part of the reason he doesn't fall asleep in our arms is that he is too squirmy and active to settle down in our arms and go to sleep.  I think that the other reason he doesn't take naps with us is that we treat him like he's 'older,' or we need to get stuff done while he is asleep and always put him down in his crib for a nap.  So we have been trying to slow down and cuddle with him, if he'll let us, and let him fall asleep in our arms.  Yesterday he took a long nap with his daddy all cuddled up in Hans' arms with his head against Hans' chest.  And then when he woke up he stayed in hans arms for a long time very still and relaxed.
He LOVES his daddy - Hans can make him laugh and smile like no other.  If I am holding Sorin while Hans is talking to me, Sorin just stares at him and smiles the whole time.   They love to play together, Hans gets him very active and Sorin loves that.  So here's to Sorin's daddy....

New Skill for Sorin

Our little four month old is learning things faster than we ever thought possible. It seems like only weeks ago that he started grabbing at things (wait - it was only 2 weeks ago...). I remember Hans and I saw him bring his hand slowly up to his nuk and to take it out - with a very puzzled look on his face - and we thought it was the greatest, most impressive thing we'd ever seen.
Now look what he does:

If only he could learn how to reach around his crib at night to grab it and put it in his mouth...

Sorin's First Christmas

Our little Sorin had a very merry christmas.  He loved the christmas tree and the lights and was fascinated by the wrapping paper on the presents.  He loved being with his grandparents and his aunts and uncles and his mom and dad.

We started things off with a little family christmas.  We gave Sorin his present and then each other presents and drank egg nog
: ).  Sorin, as you can see below loved is present a Bumbo!

Then we packed up and headed off to Grandpa Dave and Grandma Margit's for Christmas Eve

You can see how he and Grandpa coordinated their outfits for the day - very handsome.

Then it was over to the Robertson's for Christmas Day where his Grandpa and his Grandma Susie were very excited to see him.

Sorin especially liked the rubber duck he got from Tori and a stuffed animal dogs, from Grant and Jess.

He didn't quite get the fact that you also GIVE presents, but we took care of that for him, this year was a freebie ; ).
