Autumn is a good time of year

Katie has found out that Sorin really likes to be outside.  He has a little more energy and his level of exploration starts to take him to new places of discovery.  Of course this makes me thoroughly excited because I love being outside and in the elements.

Last weekend we went to Cedarburg for my Lakefront Marathon.  It felt like the first real autumn weekend, and Sorin enjoyed the weather.  Katie and I absolutely love this sweater we got from some friends.  I got a bunch of pics outside while Sorin was walking around with Steve.

A few weeks back Katie and I went out to Oktoberfest in New Glarus.  We've been out there a few times with friends for this festival - this was Sorin's first trip out.

Bleeding Red

Sorin is what you'd call a veteran Bucky fan.  Sure, he just celebrated his FIRST birthday only weeks ago.  But don't tell him that.  Just days after entering this world, Sorin couldn't even get out of the hospital before he met Buckingham U. Badger, known around Madison as Bucky Badger.

Last year, on August 30th we took this picture of Sorin listening (intently, as you can see) to his first Badger game on Football Saturday!  Those memories can be found on this old blog post.

Well the nights are getting cooler.  Students are moving back to Madison.  And Sorin is ready for his second football season.  Who wants to see this little guy suiting up for the Badgers on Saturdays?!?!!!

Pool Days

I think that there was a about a week this summer where it was warm enough to even consider buying a pool for Sorin, let alone let Sorin swim in it.  And, luckily, it was LATE ENOUGH in the summer that the pool cost us about 7 bucks - needless to say Sorin LOVED it - sad to say it hasn't been warm enough to get back in it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (8/22)

Sorin's 1!!!!!!!!!  Yaaaa Hoooo!!!!!!!!! - and a cute little one he is.  He had a GREAT birthday.  We were all up in Rhinelander at Fort Wilderness for the Robertson Family Reunion (my side of the family) so Sorin had a pretty big party.  It all started, in the morning, with Grandma Susie surprising him with a drawer full of presents.  (He LOVES opening and closing drawers) and a big balloon (above)...

... then after lunch we had all the cousins and aunts and uncles come and sing him happy

 birthday... we probably should have practiced a little but Sorin liked it anyways...

... and then we ate carrot cake cupcakes, Sorin seemed to thoroughly enjoy his : ) ...

... and last, but not least, more presents!!

Steps

It's an adventure for Katie and I to witness all the new things Sorin has been going lately. A couple days ago he took two (walking) steps towards Katie. Then later that night he was standing at the ottoman and took 4-5 steps towards me under pretty good control.

Katie and I have an air of excitement around the house now because Sorin is so close to another milestone. I find myself cheering for him and watching his every move for what might be next.

Tonight we were in his room folding clothes and watching Sorin stand next to his dresser, opening and closing the drawers, pulling out folded clothes, and moving himself up and down the sides as he hangs on. He certainly is comfortable up on his feet. He had a sandle and I asked for it, so he picked it up and took 4-5 steps towards me. Well then it was on! We had him taking a few steps numerous times. Then he had a blue button-up shirt that "we wanted," and as he was walking towards me, he paused and did a half turn towards the ottoman under perfect control. I had to keep my cool, but I looked up at Katie with so much excitement you'd think he just set a world record.

We got a video documentation of this new feat, so we're pretty proud of our little man's first steps.

Summer Outdoors

When Sorin was born in August 2008, time flew by and it quickly turned to winter and the cold months. This included bundling him up in snowsuits and cute hats. Both Katie and I looked forward to the summer months of both an older age and outdoor activities.

That time is upon us and Sorin is an outdoor enthusiast! Often when I come home Katie will have Sorin in his stroller next to her as she's tending to her flowers and garden. One day she had him on a blanket as she was watering the yard. Soon Sorin figured out the fun he could have if he put his hand over the water, spraying himself and Katie.

As Sorin learns to crawl, most of you have seen him go up on all fours (off his knees) to move around. He now does this on the sidewalk and driveway. As Katie and I continue our training, Sorin enjoys our runs from his stoller. While he used to whine and need either food or his nuk, he now sits and observes the town as he cruises through it. On our run today, I told Katie that when he learns to ride his bike with us, he'll figure out that it might be nicer for him if he could return to the comforts of his stroller - not happening, by the way.



Oh, did I mention that he loves watermelon?
